The basic set I sell is for the M-1, OM-1 THRU 4Ti. Please specify model if needed for something else. Some cutting on your part will be required. It is expected that you will install foam within 30 days of receipt. Up to that time I will replace any foam pieces that may be defective. After 30 days, defective foam will be replaced at customers expense.
Many XAs do not have slot foam, so an XA set is made up of self-stick pieces for the back cover. Slot foam is included but you may not have to use it. Set for OM-PC (40) does not include piece for back cover film window (not available)
Please read everything all the way through before starting. Materials used and techniques required for installation are subject to change without notice. Supplying these instructions does not imply foam replacement is meant to be done at home by the end user. It is possible that when all work is done, camera will not work or back may be glued shut. It is also very possible you'll do an an excellent job! Camtech is not responsible for any damage. Work slowly and carefully for best results.
Self stick slot foam is very difficult to work into the back slots without it getting all twisted up. I do not use it, supply it, or recommend it. I do not recommend pressing new foam into slots over old foam or pressing foam into clean slots without using glue. Many people have been successful installing new foam without using glue. Old slot foam must be cleaned out first. Slots should be cleaned until you are down to painted metal. In some cases, paint may come off bottom of slot. If slot foam is not glued in, it may pull out when it sticks to the edges of the back cover.
I use an open cell slot foam that is very dark gray, not quite black. Slot pieces should be glued in. Hinge and mirror foam pieces (black) are self stick. Mirror pieces are rectangluar pads, not L shape.
If refoaming a 3, 3Ti, 4, 4T, 4Ti, be careful doing the bottom long slot. There should be NO FOAM or GLUE for the last 4-5mm at the left hand (latch) end of the slot. When the back is snapped shut, the lower edge of the cover opens a switch. Look closely, or with a loupe and you'll see the switch tab which is located in this area. When this switch opens, it starts the Motor Drive 2 auto load winding sequence. A similar tab is present in the OM-G, OM-PC (OM-20, OM-40) this is found in the bottom slot about 1.5" in from the left hand end.
OM-1 with bad prism due to rotting foam! Wrinkled paint surface shows where bad foam has done it's damage. This will show
in viewfinder as dark green/black patches. Prism is a solid block of glass, cannot be partially re-coated.
Short range of plain OM-1 and OM-2 were made withOUT prism foam!
OM-1 chrome and black : serial number 1,110,000
and up to where 1N production started.
OM-2 chrome: serial number 510,000 and up
OM-2 black: serial number 385,000 and up
ALL
1N and 2N were made WITH prism foam. Why oh why!? Stop the madness!
All serial numbers are approximate. Numbers
meaningless if bottom covers get swapped around.
